Memory Care
An assisted living residence is a long-term senior care option that provides personal care support services such as meals, medication management, bathing, dressing and transportation.
The main difference is that the level of medical care isn't the same between nursing homes and assisted living. Assisted living communities may have a nursing staff and a health clinic. However, the primary focus of assisted living is to help residents with activities of daily living.
How is memory care different from assisted living?
Although assisted living communities may have memory care units on the premises, the two types of care are not synonymous. Memory care is a distinct form of long-term skilled nursing that specifically caters to patients with Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other types of memory problems.
What is the difference between independent living and assisted living?
Independent living is similar to assisted living, though seniors don't require daily care and assistance. Residents within an independent living community are typically able to perform everyday tasks, such as preparing meals or cleaning their home, though the communities may offer these services as needed.
What are the requirements to live in assisted living?
Eligibility for admission is based on an individual's care level requirements. Individuals entering assisted living communities often need assistance with ADLs (activities of daily living) such as personal care, hygiene assistance, mobility, meal preparation, medication management and more.
